Jordan Sarrou goes for five!

40th edition of the Roc d'Azur CIC, October 9-13, Fréjus (Var).
The Roc d'Azur CIC live on L'Équipe, this Sunday from 8.25 am.
Jordan Sarrou aims for five in the Roc d'Azur CIC at the heart of a top-level field Pauline Ferrand-Prévot, this summer's Olympic champion, will start the Roc d'Azur CIC.

An Olympic champion to give the start: the 40th edition of the Roc d'Azur CIC, the week's flagship race with 4,000 entrants, will get off to a promising start. Although she preferred not to take the start, Pauline Ferrand-Prévot, last summer's Olympic champion and winner in Fréjus in 2017 and 2022, agreed to be present at the starting line to kick off the event. In the men's race, although he hesitated to take the start after returning from the World Cup campaign in Canada ill, Jordan Sarrou will finally be there. A record-holder in terms of number of victories (2014, 2016, 2017, 2022), the Frenchman, even if he doesn't consider himself to be at 100%, could still play a leading role. Mathis Azzaro, who has performed very well in recent weeks, such as his second-place finish last week at the World Cup in Mont Sainte-Anne (Canada), should be leading the way. Winner of the Ford Roc Marathon on Friday, Switzerland's Casey South showed his fine form. Frenchman Joshua Dubau and Italians Samuele Porro and Dario Cherchi will also be keeping an eye on the race. This 2024 edition will also be marked by the last race of Maxime Marotte, one of the best French racers on the world circuit in recent years. Former winners will also be at the start, with Stéphane Tempier (2012 and 2018) and 2000 Olympic champion Miguel Martinez, three-time winner in Fréjus (1997, 2004, 2013). Dutch rider Dylan van Baarle, a top performer on the road (eight Tour de France appearances, winner of Paris-Roubaix 2022 and runner-up in the 2021 World Championship), will also be testing his mettle on the trails of the Massif des Maures. In the women's race, Noémie Garnier will attempt to defend the title she won last year. But the competition will be tough, with Italians Sandra Mairhofer (2nd Friday at the Ford Roc Marathon), Chiara Burato and Greta Seiwald, Belgium's Émeline Detilleux and Germany's Adelheid Morath (2-time Olympian, European cross-country marathon champion in 2023).

Roc d'Azur CIC live on L'Équipe channel

A major first! For the first time in its history, the Roc d'Azur CIC, this week's flagship race with 4,000 starters including some of the world's greatest champions, will be broadcast live in its entirety on the L'Équipe channel, this Sunday, from 8.25am to 11.30am. Commentary will be provided by Benoit Cosset, Nicolas Loth, a former racer turned journalist and announcer in the world of cycling, and Lucie Urruty, a top-level mountain biker who has been a fixture on the World Cup circuit in recent years. A number of mountain bike stars, including Loana Lecomte, will also be taking part in the event. The entire broadcast will be carried out using environmentally-friendly means (electric off-road bikes, gyroroue, drones, etc.). All reconnaissance work has also been carried out in line with this commitment.
Cycling, trails and hikes New to the Roc d'Azur CIC program, the Ekoï Cyclo Roc, a 131 km road race (1,900 m vertical drop) will be another of the day's highlights. More than just a trail, it's a journey through the splendours of the Var hinterland. The day will also be particularly busy with the four Roc Trail events (from 16 to 43 km) and the three Randos Pédestres (from 8 to 22 km), departing from Roquebrune-sur-Argens, set in superb scenery around the Rocher de Roquebrune.
